Team Efficiency
So I was thinking about how much I've improved on defense this season
(thanks to getting rid of CJ for a defensive package, and pretty much
all of my young defenders improving by 3-6 points overall & in key
areas) and how to quantify it, or if it is possible.
I was havign a look at the team stats and where some key areas were, and
I decided that one reason I'm doing so well on D is that I'm holding
opponents to short plays, no gains, or losses quite often, and I have
quicker drives. The stats don't lie either. I have defended for 123.1
minutes, the 4th longest in the league. However in terms of yards
allowed, I've given up the 5th least amount of yards.
New Aussie Chris retarded stat: Yards allowed per minute.
But seriously, think about this in our league - possession is like
gold, and moving the ball (or stopping it) speaks volumes about how well
you play. Mix this with 1st downs allowed and 3rd down conversion
rates, and we are getting to some strange defensive efficiency rating.
Here's my preliminary formula:
Yards Allowed / Opponent Possession Time = Yards Allowed per Minute (YAPM)
YAPM x 3rd Down Completion % = AC Defensive Efficiency Rating (AC-DER)
So, my Ditans YAPM is 1646/123.1 = 13.37
13.37 x .283 (3rd Down Completion %) = 3.783 AC-DER
Obviously the lower the better in this instance.
Is this just ludicrous or what? DISCUSS!

Re: Team Efficiency
SEASON 3 OF MADDEN 11
2282/110.8 = 20.60
20.60 x 0.448 = 9.23 AC-DER
SEASON 2 OF MADDEN 11
4383/236.3 = 18.55
18.55 x 0.359 = 6.66 AC-DER
SEASON 1 OF MADDEN 11
4569/280.5 = 16.29
16.29 x .424 = 6.91
This tells me that getting rid of my two stud CB's has probably hurt my defense to a degree (got rid of Leon Hall in the middle of season 2 and Jonathan Joseph before season 3 started).
Nice stat!

Re: Team Efficiency
Thanks Babyseat, I think it does tell a lot about a defense.
I'm going to go through and try to find the historically best of both categories. I think my first 7 weeks have to be pretty close.
