Panthers and Dolphins trade
After more than 4 hours of negotiation, 385 lines of chat, 4 days of will they won't they, and several terse words from both sides the shrewd Carolina Panthers and the jaded Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement in a multi player swap of epic proportion. Picks, players, and cap was al under consideration as several offers, counter offers, and counter-counter offers were thrown in the trash before both sides finally settled on the following swap.
Panthers give
Panthers 1st and 2nd, CB Gamble 87, QB Netwon 83, LB Beason 97
for
Dolphins give
Rams 1st, QB Rivers 96, LB Burnett 74, LB Bishop 82, DT Soliai 88, CB Smith 86
Convoluting this trade further, the San Diego Chargers were also consulted in this agreement as the Rams 1st round pick would technically belong to them per a clause placed on the trade for Phillip Rivers. That pick has now been replaced by the Panthers 1st round draft pick in that gamble.
Rivers, who came to Miami after a disappointing WC bounce in the M12S1 playoffs under the command of David Garrard. However he himself has been a disappointment, failing to make any great stride over what Garrard was able to accomplish.
Rivers 2012 Passer Rating 77.6
Garrard 2011 Passer Rating 82.3
However the real crux of the trade was in acquiring the dominant LB Jon Beason for the Dolphins, who rank dead last in run defense this year.
The Dolphin hope that the legs of Newton will re-spark their stagnant offense and Beason will provide a Huge Psychological Boost to the porous D.
Bishop who had a pick in the Dolphins win over the Chargers was sad to go but promised to make the Dolphins regret not dealing the ludicrously older Hawk in his place. He plans to keep his number on the Panthers squad.
