This trade is a small piece of a larger picture. The Texans have traded away their 2nd round pick, yes. They've also traded their 3rd round pick in a previous trade. But the Texans also gained a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick in another previous trade. For those keeping track, that essentially means that the Texans 3rd round pick has morphed into a 1st rounder and the 2nd rounder just shuffled around a little. On top of that, they gain a quicker, more physical receiver off the release to give CBs problems and can now move Walter into the slot where his route running and superb catching make him a match up problem for opposing linebackers. Sometimes one trade doesn't paint the whole picture. Due to this series of events, the Texans improve their position now and in the future.

I prefer to think of it as 'A Beautiful Mind' logic. There's hidden connections in my trades EVERYWHERE. They just can't be seen by those that play it safe.

3 receptions, 41 yards and a TD in Roy's first game with the Texans. Plus, Walter nabbed a TD reception from his new home in the slot. Without that production last night, the Ravens would have won and the Texans wouldn't be 1/2 game back of first in the AFC South right now.

Yep. You can get those kinds of numbers with blatantly sub-par receivers like Williams.
By the by, keeping the draft pick was the non play-it-safe option, if only because of the possibilities of using that pick.

lol why is everyone hating on Roy? Call me Bill Belichick cause I'll take those sub-par, under performing, unwanted athletes and give them a chance at a revival down in big H.
By the by, I would think that because of the possibilities of that pick that keeping it would be the play it safe option. I could have just sat back and waited to see how the season turned out instead of rolling the dice on a receiver who's been passed around more than a $5 crack whore.
