Ravens soar past the Jags
The Ravens, all bleary eyed and wondering WTF was going on with their 4am alarm call to travel to Jacksonville managed to get a number in their W column.
Ball Hawk Ed Reed shouted, "Seriously, what are we doing up at this time? We're bobbins when we're fully awake, how the hell are we going to play now!"
The Ravens travelled to Jacksonville for another road game, after the Zero points from the O at the Vikings, they had time to think it out as Jacksonville won the toss. The Ravens D held big to stop the Jags on their first possession, forcing a punt after they moved the ball about 20 yards.
Matt Schaub took to the field this week knowing that his starting job was on the line, the drive started to actually move, with a first down off the first play. Methodically moving the ball down the field, the Ravens actually reached FG range, so after they failed to get a first, it was time for Jeff Reed to step on the field. It was Good! Ravens celebrated on the sideline, at least this week wouldnt be a shut out.
The Jags next possession moved them down the field to FG range and they scored their own 3 points, tying the game up. Ravens punted next, followed by a Jags punt, with around a minute left the Ravens were 3rd and long and were running the clock down so if they had to punt the Jags wouldnt get long, they converted and had 1 time out left and burned it. Sideline passes later and they were getting close, but the clock was ticking, one last pass towards the end zone was tapped away, leaving 2 secs on the clock, Jeff Reed strided out onto the field again, the 47 yard FG was good according to the stats and scoreboard, but failed due to the commentary. Following the end of the game, the replay showed the ball had hit the cross bar, but in some magical world it had went through it and gave the Ravens a 6v3 half time lead.
The Ravens buoyed by there 1st half performance came out in the 2nd half and the 1st drive was getting somewhere, until a massive sack on 2nd down, made them facing a 3rd and 24, they lucked out and had to punt. The Ravens D playing out of their socks all day came up tough again, forcing the Jags to punt. The Ravens started a drive which finally ended with a TD, facing a 3rd and goal, Schaub hit TE Scaife who had just enough pace, and more than enough strength to get to the end zone, Ravens up 13v3 in the 3rd. Jags next drive was moving well down the field, up stepped Dominque Foxworth with his 2nd pick in 2 games, a short return got the Ravens the best field position they have ever had, just short of midfield, another steady drive brought them into the red zone, facing a 3rd and short with the box stacked, Schaub hit Quarsely who was so wide open, there wasnt another player in his zip code. he managed to catch the ball and rumble in the final few yards to take the Ravens to 20v3 up. Jags got the ball back with around 3 mins left in the game, a couple of first downs before a final 3 and out before punting the ball away, and Ravens were able to see out the clock then. Rookie LE DJ "Stretch" Armstrong, who had 4 big tackles in the game; said afterwards "It's been a real baptism of fire stepping up into the league for the first time, but today we actually clicked as a team, we stuck to our assignments and executed them for the first time this season" he continued "Playing opposite Haloti Ngata is always going to bring the run your way, you know they want to ram it down your throat, sometimes though you want it ram it back at them, and lucky for me, today was that day."
