Panthers End Season. So do the Bucs.
The Panthers struggled early on and never really figured out a good way to use Chris Johnson on offense as well as they expected. A change in defense to blitzing maniacally from multiple formations and using Chris Johnson on special teams seemed to awaken the sleeping pixels. Going to Tampa Bay, a team that had soundly beat them a couple of games ago, I believe I scored to cut the final score to 10 as time expired.
Different things were in store this week.
Playing Josh Freeman meant a bit of a change-up in defensive line play. Eric Norwood would be doing a lot of QB contain instead of balls out rushing the passer and on a pass designed for Caddy Williams out of the backfield Norwood stepped in front, took the pigskin 39 yards to the house, giving Carolina a miscellaneous touchdown that their owner thinks is the key to their victories. (Longest sentence ever)
The second quarter opened with "The Louisville Hot Sauce" Aaron Scott catching a 42 yard pass for a touchdown. Then Aaron Scott caught a 16 yard pass for a touchdown. Then the Bucs drove the field, former Panther Matt Moore completed a pass for a first down on a fake field goal that everyone everywhere knew was coming and scored a touchdown moments later with 17 seconds left in the half. A squib kick took 4 seconds off the clock and did not move the ball. A quick pass to John Carlson got a first down, then a bomb to, that guy again, Aaron Scott got the ball to the Bucs 23 yard line with 4 seconds left. Wondering if there was enough time to throw a pass to the endzone and then try a field goal led to a pass to Aaron Scott in the endzone. Which he caught as time expired. 28-7 at the half with the Bucs receiving the kick. Risk = Reward
The third quarter featured another miscellaneous touchdown, this time from "Aw" Shontae Spencer going 65 yards after an interception.
Chris Johnson and Toby Gerhart sandwiched a Johnnie Lee Higgins touchdown with touchdowns of their own and Justin Coker kicked a field goal in the 4th quarter to end the scoring at 52-14.
The Panthers tied for 2nd in the division (depending on tie breakers officially) and end the season on a 3 game winning streak.
The Panthers are now interested in keeping Chris Johnson and may pay him a lot of money to watch other teams punt out of bounds.
