Texans thwart Packers, 27-17
In a battle of mixed emotions, Texans owner Mike Suszek decided to wear his #37 Sam Shields Packers jersey while playing today's game in Green Bay. It was the only way to support his favorite CB, which became a Texan last season in the 4thSL, while also atoning for his sins as a Packers fan. It didn't help matters that his dear, wonderful girlfriend was blatantly cheering for the Packers the whole time. And then the icing on the cake came when Packers owner Scott intentionally chose the Packers' awesome throwback jerseys. This game was personal for Mike, with his playoff hopes potentially hanging in the balance. As Scott put it, this game was a Milwaukee ticket holders game, adding to the confusion for fans of both teams..
"Heads or tails?" Suszek asked his girlfriend from across the apartment. She cheered as Suszek got the call wrong, and was set to receive to start the game. The Texans then capped off a lengthy 5-ish minute drive with a 7-yd. pass to Lenoy "The Playboy" Tucker.
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers threw three INTs in the game, and I believe the first came in the next drive to Texans FS Sherrick McManis. Regardless, the Texans brought the ball within field goal range and missed wide left. On the next Packers drive, Mason Crosby showed what a real kicker is all about (forget the Buccs Jon "Chronicles of" Riddick), knocking in a 56-yd. FG. Taking it down to the two minute warning to end the half, Rackers kicked a 54-yd. FG. Then after a three-and-out for the Packers, they came down to the 1-yd. line with seconds left in the half. However, Clay Matthews caught an INT that was tipped by Charles Woodson, followed up by Ryan Grant staying out of the endzone to close out the half, 10-3 Texans.
That victory was short-lived, however. Nnamdi Asomugha sixed a pick at the beginning of the Packers next drive, making it 17-3 Texans. Then the Packers came to life, taking advantage of the Texans' ballsy cover-0 blitz, with Rodgers finding James Jones deep for a 54-yd. TD pass. Then as the Texans worked their way down the field, Cassel threw his own pick-six on a play they never run to Packers CB Brice McCain, who the Texans traded for Sam Shields last season. Heading into the 4th quarter the game was notched up, 17-17.
After some back n' forth, the Texans scored on a pass to HB Steve Slaton in the flats with only a few minutes left, 24-17. Then with just under two minutes left, Rackers knocked down another field goal, 27-17 Texans. The Packers had a chance to come back, but the Texans squashed those hopes. At some other point in the game, Asomugha had another interception, but LM refuses to acknowledge his stats from this game. This comes after both owners' discussion of wanting to see one of their players in a "player of the week" category, which Asomugha would have had a chance at.
As the only game I've played while on the headset with my opponent this season, I can say this was a really fun game. All stats aside, I think Scott plays a great game, and it was entertaining the whole way through.
The Texans look forward to their last three games against the Jets, Colts, and Lions, while the Packers face the Vikings, Bears, and Giants. With this win, the Texans top their number of wins last season (they are now 8-5), and are desperately trying to close out their division to get into the playoffs.
