Bears keep undefeated streak alive! Empty Bears keep undefeated streak alive!

Post by CitizenChad FB Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:39 am

A cold night was the stage for the undefeated Chicago Bears to defend their record against the upstart Detroit Lions. The Lions coach CitizenChad had a busy day of meetings with the general manager and ownership over the possible sale of the team to the group led by Eminem and D12. When reached for comment, he had this to say, "I was busy all day, I barely made it to the game on time!". Fortunately, there was a 30 minute delay of the opening kick due to an issue with the team's pre-game meal. Coach John commented, "Our food arrived just around game time. We can't play on an empty stomach!". Both teams we're anxious to play on a nationally televised game for NBC's Sunday evening broadcast, "Football Night in America". The match-up was the last game of the week and there was a sense of urgency between the two teams.

The pre-game events transferred onto the field during the first quarter of play that was somewhat sloppy overall. The Lions opened the game allowing star return-man Devin Hester to take the ball back to near the 50 yard line. A couple of turnovers by both teams led to the only score of the first quarter being a field goal by the Lions.

Sparks began to fly in the second quarter as the Bears roared back with Jay Cutler connecting with Munchie "Crunch 'n Munch" Cosh for a TD reception. Aaron Brown, relatively quiet for the day, rumbled into the end zone on a two yard TD rush to answer back. Towards the end of the second quarter, Carson Palmer got the Lions into hurry up mode to hit TE Tony Scheffler for a touchdown with only six seconds remaining on the clock. The score was 17-7 Lions going into the second half.

During halftime, linebacker Brian Urlacher was overheard by reporters yelling at teammates in the Bears locker room. Reports say that there was an exchange between Urlacher and LB Will "Red" Herring, but there is no evidence that the situation escalated to anything more than words. Something must have clicked for Chicago as they came out firing in the third quarter. HB Jonathan Dwyer finished up a drive with a 3 yard TD after an opening Lions three and out. "Crunch 'n Munch" must have been hungry because he came back for seconds. He caught a 7 yard TD pass from Jay Cutler to put the Bears ahead 21-17. Bears CB Zackary Bowman must have felt left out because he took an INT back to the house for a pick-6. Lions coach CitizenChad commented on the play, "We had an audio issue with Carson's helmet mic. He ended up running a play that we've only practiced once or twice." The Lions spirit was not broken though, Carson Palmer hit Calvin Johnson with a bullet for a streak TD that made the score 28-24 Bears.

The Bears scored on the first play of the 4th quarter. Jay Cutler hit Devin Hester for a quick pass that lead to an unbelievable 80 yard TD. Quarterback Carson Palmer once again put the Lions into hurry up mode to try and quickly answer back. A 19 yard TD reception by Bernard Berrian was the result of the Lion's last gasp of life in the game. The Bears to coach John's credit put together a time consuming drive that ended in Jonathan Dwyer getting his second rushing TD for the game.

The NFC North divisional game led to good ratings for the NBC broadcast. The game, featuring a division winner and a possible wildcard drew in many looking to see the teams head to head.

Haha, good one Mike. That was a lengthy write-up with all of the scoring going on. Hopefully the changes to zone defense will keep the touchdowns down overall.
