Redskins fall to Cowboys, promising season ends with a whimper
It was another hard fought NFC East battle, but ultimately a futile one. The Redskins fell to the Cowboys 38-35 in Dallas, officially icing a season that had once shown so much potential.
The first quarter had all the makings of a familiar Redskins meltdown. Two bad picks put Washington down 21-7, bringing back memories of the rout they suffered during last year's Wild Card round. But a pick by rookie corner Verlon Hardnett and a pair of quick touchdowns put the Redskins right back in it, and Washington went into the second half up 28-24.
But that was when Dallas clamped down. Two Redskins drives quickly fizzled, and the Cowboys made the score 31-28.
"They've got a good team," Owner/GM Kat Bailey admitted after the game. "A throw will be wide open, but a corner will leap 30 feet in the air to knock the ball down. Ridiculous really."
The Redskins had a chance to take a late lead after picking off Tony Romo in the endzone, but the Cowboys stopped them with one last pick of their own. Down 38-28, the Redskins finally put together a late drive that brought them within a field goal; by then though, it was too late. Even without Steven Jackson, who exited the game early with an injury, the Cowboys were able to run out the clock.
The loss capped off a season in which the high-flying Redskins offense frequently had an opportunity to go up by two possessions late in the game, only to suddenly stall out. As they prepare for a meaningless game against the Giants, they have to wonder what might have been if Jonathan Stewart hadn't fumbled against the goal line against the Seahawks; Fred Davis hadn't fallen one yard short of the winning score against the Eagles and Ben Roethlisberger had actually been able to put together a scoring drive to begin the second half.
"What a crap season," President Obama said in a statement. "I'm glad I'm a Bears fan. By the way Kat, the Vikings suck and the Packers are Super Bowl champions. How does it feel to be a failure?"
Kat could be heard crying softly from her office after the game.
Dallas now takes on Buffalo with a chance to clinch. The Redskins are making plans to play golf.

How does one beat the Cowboys? The playoffs will be TOUGH, and lots of great teams involved.

The way you beat any team -- minimize their main threats and capitalize on opportunities. The latter was what I couldn't accomplish. The fact that they have roughly 100 90+ players on their team might have something to do with it.

As someone who's played meaningless games since week 8, I can sympathize.

I didn't end that earlier than Week 8, Rich?
No game is meaningless. You got a win past Week 8, right? That's what we in the biz call a....
PSYCHOLOGICAL BOOST!!

I agree with the "no game is meaningless" idea. Why do real NFLers play to win in Week 15 when they're 4-10? Because you're always learning and adjusting. That's clutch!

Thanks for that, coach.

I heard a rumor that they keep playing to win because tax-paying citizens that fund these assholes expect them to put forth a good product.
But it was just a rumor... <---elephant

If my game with Mike was so meaningless why I have I been thinking about it for 48 hours. Wait, don't answer that.
